Green Party candidate for Houghton and Sunderland at the 2019 General Election, elected as the North East Regional representative and Iterim co-chair, Richard Bradley has resigned from the Green Party Regional Council (GPRC). Evidence is emerging that he has been bullied out of office by identinarian activists who now control GPRC.
A long serving member of the party, Richard sudden resignation will be a shock to his hard working local party supporters. Naively perhaps, Richard had opened himself to being the target of identinarian bullies when declaring to feel a “bit uncomfortable” with the way rules to No-Fault-Suspensions (NFS) were being applied by GPRC and the Disciplinary Committee. In his comment to the question “How do you define risk ?” Richard had, perhaps unwisely, expressed his concerns that there was no clear definition of what constituted “a risk” or “harm” to the party at a workshop held in late April. What “Bringing the party into disrepute” and “what constitutes transphobia” was “rather ill-defined” he remarked, adding: “Natural justice does not seem to apply”.
A few days later Richard handed in his resignation. This followed a quorate Emergency meeting to consider a formal complaint requesting that a No Fault Suspension be imposed to the whole of Green Party Women’s Committee because of their “transphobic” tweet calling for a debate on the proposed amendment of the 2010 Equality Act.
What happened behind closed doors at that Emergency meeting will no doubt remain a well-kept secret. Richard does not appear to have offered any personal reasons as to why he suddenly felt he had to gave up his role as co-chair and regional representative. Members of the North East Region have already been invited to come forward as candidates to replace Richard. Our growing number of followers will make their own minds up about this deeply disturbing episode in the life of our party. We will seek to report on the outcome of this election.
