The Charity Commission also opened a regulatory compliance case into the charity in September 2022 after safeguarding allegations were raised. The investigation is still on-going.
On 12th April 2023, Jane Mitchell from the LGBTQIA+ Greens launched a fund raising campaign online inviting members to show their support for Mermaids. This was followed by a show of enthusiastic support from newly elected Green Party Womem co-chair Ch esca Walton : ” This is Great ! ” she said, “so glad you’re doing this challenge! ” and added ” Hackney Greens are putting a team together to hopefully take part too”.
