what happens when identinarians are in control – a warning from green party women

Following a campaign lead by influencial identinarian trans activists, including the then Green Party co-leader Sian Berry and deputy leader Amelia Womack, the Green Party Women’s Committee elected at the start of 2021 was run by identinarians who held five of the eight seats.

Within a matter of weeks the ‘gender critical’ co-chair Emma Bateman was given a no fault suspension for talking about sex and gender after a complaint was made by two members from the committee. Emma remained on the suspension until August 2021 and was reinstated after Maya Forstater’s case which established that it is lawful to express gender critical views. The identinarian co-chair of Green Party Woman was Kathryn Bristow, a transgender identified male.  Kathryn was also given a no fault suspension in March 2021 after he encouraged people to break the law by lying on the census but was reinstated a few weeks later.

Between March and August 2021, the Green Party Women Committee ceased to function altogether. They held only one meeting and sent just one email during that time. On 27th June 2021, Kathryn Bristow deleted the majority of the content in the Green Party Women members Green Space and locked down the space entirely by making himself the only person who could post or comment. This was done without consulting or notifying the rest of the committee or members.

Bristow said at the time that deleting posts and shutting down the space was done to ‘prevent transphobia’. However, the Green Party has no agreed definition of transphobia and it was therefore not within his remit to arbitrarily impose his own definition. All posts and comments from December 2020 Bristow deemed unacceptable were removed. Those posts covered a wide range of topics connected with women,  such as  articles on Sister Julian of Norwich, Danish Footballer Nadia Nadim, and  anti FGM campaigner Hibo Wardere.

Emails to the committee also went unanswered and complaints and appeals to the Standing Orders Committee (SOC) and the Green Party Regional Council (GPRC) were futile. Nothing was done to give members access to the space again until Bristow was forced to open it up in preparation for the  election for a new committee whilst he retained control over who could post and upload files. In November 2021 Emma Bateman reported that the entire archive of Green Party Women emails had been deleted.

As far as we are aware, Kathryn Bristow faced no consequences or reprimands for deleting the Green Party Women members space or for preventing members access to it and remains a  member of the Green Party.
