Whilst the Green Party ‘s leadership contest is gathering momentum with a marked difference in style between new MPs Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns and Deputy Leader Zack Polanski’s solo candidature, it is hard to find much fundamental disagreement between them in terms of policies and priorities.
Key to Zack Polanski’s style and campaign strategy consist in reaching out to disillusioned former Corbyn’s supporters and “leftist” individuals in search of a home via media performances with the assistance of his Green social media warriors.
Polanski’s aim is to recruit new members to join the Party before 31st July so that their votes will be added to those from his core followers. These are mainly from London and Brighton, the LGBTIQA+ Greens, a few Muslim Greens, members of other Special Interest Groups, the emerging Green Organise group and 100 or so Green Councillors.
Meanwhile, Adrian Ramsway and Ellie Chowns seem to concentrate their efforts on main media appearances and ‘getting the vote out’ from members by relying on their impressive record as experienced Councillors and newly elected MPs. This is coupled with the endorsements from key Council Leaders and former MP Caroline Lucas.
Nothwithstanding the possibility still of new candidates coming forward between now and 30th June who could act as serious ‘disrupters’, the definition of ‘sex’ and the Trans Rights versus Women’s Rights “no debate” mantra are likely to remain a deep scar that will continue to tear the Party further apart and be a ticking time bomb.
Because of an internally perceived threat to the very existence of the Green Party, there is a rather sinister and short sighted conspiracy of silence on the subject of sex and gender as well as Trans Rights and Women’s Rights from both Zack and Adrian/Ellie’s camps which makes active members who still dare not stick their head above the parapet de facto accomplices to the Party’s own destruction.
What neither Zack, nor Adrian and Ellie have any intention of dealing with it seems in their respective campaigns are the consequences of the recent Supreme Court ruling about the legal ( and biological ) definition of ‘sex’ and the urgent need to revoke the 2016 Stonewall inspired Party policy ‘Transwomen are women and trans men are men…’.
Nor are they considering deviating from the Party’s opposition to the banning of puberty blockers for children, or breaking the deafening silence over the Cass’s report.
The Party’s own definition of ‘sex’ which is deliberately confused with gender and all trans related policies deriving from the confusion – such as self-identification or the code of conduct “definition of Queerphobia” – are now incompatible with the Equality Act.
Existing Party policies also fail to actually protect and defend Trans Rights as per their acquired gender and Women’s Right as per their biological sex.
The same policies have resulted in scores of mostly green women members being discriminated against, bullied, suspended for many months or years whilst others have resigned in despair or been kicked out of the party.
Pretending that the problem will go away by remaining silent is bad enough and morally cowardly enough, but the launch of multi-millionaire J.K Rowling’s Women’s Fund – where she pledges to bankroll legal cases for women who feel they have been discriminated against just because of their ‘gender critical’ views – ought to be a wake up call and a kick in the head for all candidates who aspire to lead the Party.
With so many Greens in Exile who will be able to access J. K Rowling’s generous fund to fight their cases in Court against the Party, how can any would-be Leader and would-be Executive Committee member literally afford to remain silent ?
No ordinary member should now be too scared to talk about the difference between sex and gender and should feel free to openly ask questions to candidates about any aspect of The Equality Act and Identity Politics, including Trans Rights and Women’s Rights.
Nor should any member refrain from calling for an urgent review of the whole of Party policy (RR530) for fear of being dragged through the disciplinary process and find themselves slapped with a No Fault Suspension by the diminishing group of ten trans gender extremists still mandated to serve on the Green Party Regional Council by their Regions. In that respect, may be lessons from the North West should be learnt by other Regions.
Shahrar Ali’s successful court case against the Party was indeed a huge landmark for freedom of speech and Women’s Rights. But Judge Hellman’s ruling seems to have had a limited impact on the capture of the Party’s hierarchy by identinarian zealots and the Party’s hyperactive trans lobby.
Those who have paid the price for this landmark case are in fact Local Parties. They are the ones who have had their capitation money illegally withheld by the Executive for three years ( presumably to meet the Party’s legal costs ) whilst being given no choice by “Executive Order” but stand and find their own deposit moneys for the 2024 General Election and the 2025 Local Councils/Mayoral Elections.
A string of further discrimination cases by ‘gender critical’ members which will inevitably result in the Party being found guilty of sex discrimination and other breaches of Human Rights are expected to follow. We understand from a reliable source that five cases are being prepared, starting with former Green Party Women’s Chair Emma Bateman’s pending hearing.
Such abomination must be averted or it will be the Green Party’s death knell.
So, let’s talk about ‘sex’ and gender and stop letting ourselves be intimidated to speaking up, starting with an honest and clear statement from each leadership candidates and aspiring members of the Executive about ” what is a woman?”, their views on the Supreme Court ruling and the Cass report.
