“Transphobia will absolutely not be tolerated”, says newly elected leader of the Green Party of England and Wales ( The Canary website )

On Friday 19th September, former Green Party deputy leader Dr Shahrar Ali who was excluded from the Party for two years as a result of a complaint made against him in 2022, formally lodged a second claim for unlawful discrimination and victimisation under the Equality Act 2010 against the Green Party at the Royal Courts of Justice.
Dr Ali’s new claim is about an allegation of unlawful discrimination and victimisation because of a media post where he compared teaching transgender identity to very young children to teaching them the concept of schizophrenia. What he was thus seeking to highlight was that teaching such complex gender concepts to young chidlren presented a safeguarding risk.
In response to this claim, the Green Party has stated that it disputes this is a valid claim and that the party’s finances are resilient enough to face up to legal challenges. Not being an incorporated body, should be Party face bankruptcy members of the Executive and of the Regional Council will be personally liable.
In 2022, champion of identity politics and an ideology which starts with the premise that sex and gender are the same and that transwomen are therefore ‘women’ and transmen are ‘men’, Zack Polanski won the contest for the deputy leadership role, thus opening the way for his recent successful leadership bid.
A strong supporter of science based evidence with regards to the definition of sex, life long defender of women’s sex-based rights and of the safeguarding of children, as well as the rights of all minorities – including the rights of transgender people – Dr Shahrar Ali was also a candidate for the deputy leader’s post in 2022.
Much has happened since, not least the remarkable electoral success of the 2024 General Election with 4 Green MPs now sitting in the House of Commons, and Dr Ali’s first Court Case in February 2024 where he was awarded damages of £ 9, 100. The Party was subsequently ordered to pay £90,000 towards his legal costs. The Cass report which has deepened the ideological divisions within the Green Party was published in April 2024.
Given that no less than 7 bundles of documented evidence had to be gathered in the year leading to the 2022 court hearing, the amount of time the Party’s legal team spent in court with further hearings regarding disputed costs, it has been estimated that Dr Ali’s first case of discrimination against the Party may have costed around £1 million.
In spite of the Executive begging Local Parties to allow the Finance Officer to withhold the share of their members’ fees, partially at first and in the end wholly and indefinitely, a lack of transparency as to what Local Parties’ capitation money had been used for does not bode well for members’ trust in the instruments of governance of the Party and its financial sustainability.
In view of the recent Supreme Court ruling which confims that under the Equality Act of 2010, sex was always meant to be interpreted as biological sex and that women’s sex-based rights must therefore be protected, Ali’s second case of discrimination would appear to be a more straight forward case that his first one.

” Our finances are solid ” stated an unnamed Party’s spokerperson, adding ” as is our resolve to defend ourselves “.
Such defiant tone raises a few fundamental and legitimate questions :
1. How solid are the Party finances ?
2. When will Local Parties get their money back ?
3. How many more court cases of sex discrimination our trans gender zealots now serving on the Executive are prepared to loose ?
5. Will Zack Polanski have the moral fibre to stand in Court to defend his definition of “what is a woman “, the Party’s abysmal record in the systematic victimisation of dissenters from his gender ideology, the shutting down of freedom of speech and children’s safeguarding?
Or will he switch his political allegiance yet again by joining Your Party, thus avoid having to face the music ?
